Volunteering Dobble

Engagement and prosocial behavior are values that families and society should cultivate from childhood. Children learn by observing and imitate the behavior of adults. However, adults are often overwhelmed by their own lives and problems, lacking the time and often the skills to identify the needs of the communities around their homes, schools, or workplaces. The ability to identify needs is crucial for providing useful and effective help.

Children and young people often lack experience with various types of help and engagement. They typically perceive volunteering as cleaning public spaces or collecting donations of clothes or food. They are not well-informed about the different forms of volunteering, types of activities, target groups, and ways they can contribute to society.

What do we need?

We would like to create a game similar to Dobble that uses graphic symbols to introduce various types and forms of volunteering, as well as different activities through which young people and children can engage in their communities. The symbols/images will allow adults to discuss volunteering with children and find parallels with the needs in their communities. This can be the first step to needs mapping and searching for partners in communities.

The result should be a board game modeled after Dobble, small, easy to store, easy to print, containing symbols/images representing the widest possible range of volunteer activities or needs that can be addressed through volunteer work. The result will be used by kids and youth.

More information:

We can provide national or local databases of volunteer opportunities, a survey on the state of volunteering, and a list of organisations working with volunteers.

It is beneficial to have someone on the team with strong visual imagination and creativity. Prior experience with graphic design software and talent in drawing and graphics can be very useful.
