description of the course
Although the need to incorporate healthy lifestyle is insisted on to the citizens, it is necessary to develop tools and resources that promote them. These resources must be developed taking into account the physical, mental and social dimension of health and its determinants. From the Health Promotion Service, a public department of the General Directorate of Public Health in the Government of the Balearic Islands, the need to incorporate digital materials into its online platform Eina Salut (“Health Tool”)was raised. The students analyzed the contents of the platform and proposed new materials aimed at specific populations such as young people or the elderly and for the general population. The resources included videos, infographics, digital questionnaires among others. Students learned many aspects of the academic curriculum related to public health and health promotion, while fostering political leadership towards the importance of this underconsidered professional role in physiotherapy. The students valued the possibility of contributing effectively to the health of citizens and considered the option of participating in the construction of the health system relevant. The project forced students to think about lifestyles, healthy habits and determinants of health in order to develop digital resources through different means already adapted to different populations, so they had to consider inclusive languages and activities.
Stories on succes and failures
The Health Promotion Service considered the participation of health sciences students in the creation of resources to be very relevant. They valued the adequacy of the materials and also understood the preparation of the professional physiotherapy group in this type of promotional actions and not only as rehabilitation. It worked very well because the whole process was carried out online: the meetings between students and public health technicians, the creation of materials and the dissemination of these through the platform. It was appropriate that the teachers and technical staff already knew each other previously and the good disposition of the students. The subject is located in the second year of the four that the BA has, so it was a very important challenge for the students and sometimes it was difficult for them to create resources with scientifically validated information.
