Improvement of online visibility of the Online Reviews Treasury
The project KEY to knowledge(KLJUČ do znanja – “KLJUČ” is short for “Klub Ljubitelja Čitatelja”, or Book Lovers Club) was started in 2011 within the Zagreb City Libraries network. Since then, it has included a variety of workshops aimed at promoting reading habits among children and youth. In a constant search for innovative, creative, and fun workshops, we strive to encourage children’s curiosity and motivate them to independently read, research, and think critically. Our Reviews Treasury (“Riznica recenzija”) is one such workshop, through which we’ve gathered exactly 387 reviews from 119 reviewers, primarily elementary school students.
At first we gathered the reviews on paper in a folder. In 2012, we started posting them in digital form on the library’s web page to make them more easily available. To increase visibility, we cooperated with Croatian Radiotelevision (HRT) from 2014 to 2018. In their studio, we met with the authors of the reviewed books, and this form of cooperation proved as a great source of motivation for our young reviewers. However, these shows have now been canceled, and nowadays, traditional TV seems to no longer be the driving force it once was.
What do we need?
The challenge is to suggest a new format in which to organize the Reviews Treasury online. Currently, the treasury is organized alphabetically by the title of the work and presented as a simple list with links to a document on Google Drive (PDF file). The largest amount of reviews is for novels (genres include, from most to least popular, novels, short stories, poetry, and science books), followed by movies, anime, manga, and comics.
The aim is to make the Reviews Treasury more visually appealing and engaging to motivate children and youth to read and write more reviews. Additionally, the ideal solution would be easy and affordable to set up and continuously update.
